"Christ In the Tomb": In this painting all light is absent; there is no gold on the canvas. Somber colors predominate in the space where the shrouded figure is laid to rest. Solid horizontal bands of black compress the corpus resting on its layer of rock and earth, suggesting the solidity of the final resting place which, without Christ's light, is finally encompassing.
